Eliminating Unused Resources with Telecom Expense Management

Eliminating Unused Resources with Telecom Expense Management

By: Peter Verhoeff

With the proliferation of mobile devices and new technologies like Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), the old ways of keeping track of equipment and services are no longer adequate. And even though communication costs have plummeted in recent years, demand has also increased, with new high tech devices being added almost daily. If anything, the need for Telecom Expense Management (TEM) software has increased, particularly in the area of inventory control.

Tracking inventory can be a troublesome task. A good starting point is to collect all telecom vendors? invoices and establish what is being billed for. This may not give an accurate picture, as billing errors are common.

Some TEM systems incorporate a cable management module that provides a firm basis for establishing what the communications network consists of. This feature greatly simplifies managing the physical layer details for any network. It documents the circuits and physical connectivity for all cable connections between voice and data equipment in single or multi-building network cable plants.

The cable network data must be supplemented with an inventory of mobile devices that are not part of the physical network. These mobile devices should be recorded, along with the names of the persons using them and tied to personnel records. The necessity for this is illustrated by the case of one large company that, after implementing a TEM system, found that 3500 monthly cell phone bills were still being paid for ex-employees who had long since left, costing the company in excess of a million dollars per year.

Once the inventory is complete and accurate, it should be inspected for any non-optimum utilization of resources. For example, it is not uncommon for telecom vendors to continue billing for branch locations that have been closed, either because they were not notified or because they failed to adjust their records. Modern TEM systems can automatically detect and report these unused resources. Any equipment or service that is not associated with an employee, department, project or profit center is likely to be unused and can be discontinued.

The telecommunications network is not a static entity and configuration changes are common. Any moves, additions, changes and disconnections (MACD) of service or equipment should immediately be recorded online, so as to keep the inventory up-to-date.

The Outlook Of Architectural Rendering

The Outlook Of Architectural Rendering
By John Smith Jr.

Initially, architectural renderings was limited only to hand painted art work. It is now more commonly known for 3D artwork. Although the words are the same, the process of 3D architectural rendering has brought a big change in itself. Hand painted architectural rendering are set up accordingly and they are colored and lit on a flat surface. In the case of 3D architectural rendering, they are set up as virtual reality scenes using a computer and with complex calculations an image is been created. The process involved in these calculations is called “rendering. In old days, a traditional architectural illustration was an important service and was available for high quality artwork. It was difficult to find a good illustrator in that period. Also, architectural illustrations were hard to alter. They were found to be hard to alter. They were found to be inaccurate, although one could not blame the illustrator for the final output.

Today it is very common to see 3D based architectural illustration and artwork being prepared. But let me now inform you that a computer generated image became known in the early 1990 S. 3d was considered to be a new (upcoming) technology. At that time, a computer generated image took more time to prepare an architectural image than illustrations created by hand. Also, the result was found to be dull and stale, irrespective of the operator s skill. The main reason behind this was in the mid 1990 S that one could see technology improving and so it was possible to combine 3D and hand painted artwork to achieve more flexibility, accuracy and thus making the image realistic enough.

It was only in the late 1990 S that people started taking 3D architectural illustrations and rendering seriously. 3D now became viable, not only to traditional illustration but also towards real photography. Today s 3D rendering artist is considered as a specialist. A 3D rendering computer generated image concept involves animators, modelers, character animators, texture/material builders, lighting experts and IT personnel are also considered to be important since they are responsible for keeping the hardware running. Hardware was considered as the biggest issue to tackle in order to get realistic 3D renderings on time and to an acceptable quality. For the want of a nice looking rendering, one must know that more processing power is needed. In the beginning, the speed of hardware was critical. But later on, computers got faster and there was an improvement found which benefited the main stream business, artists and home users. The advances brought in 3D rendering hardware, opened doors for new techniques to enter. Artists accepted new hardware technology as a blessing for them. If one has a big desire for creating pure realistic images then one must see that they try to push the limits of hardware and software constantly.

3D architectural rendering and illustration field has flourished into a fast growing industry. Due to the demand for 3D architectural rendering and illustrations, it is now found that hand painted architectural illustrations are declining. Although traditional market can dwindle further, yet the best of the best will survive since they have their artistic abilities that will stand for them. However, 3D architectural rendering is here to stay and it will improve much further as the technology improves further.

Architectural Rendering and Architectural Visualization are great marketing tool for Architects and Developers to be used for pre-construction properties.
